Get Involved in National Estuaries Day

The Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve is partnering with the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to sponsor a clean-up of whooping crane habitat on National Estuaries Day. National Estuaries Day falls on National Public Lands Day and the fall Texas Adopt-A-Beach Clean-up (9/26) this year, so we thought we would do something that benefits our local estuaries, public lands, and beaches.

This year Captain Tommy Moore will take volunteers to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on his boat, “The Skimmer,” to pick up trash along the shorelines of the Refuge.

We will leave at 8:00 a.m. from Fulton Harbor. Groups will be dropped off at various stations to collect trash and then picked up. This event will take most of the day due to the boat travel time. Lunch will be provided. Volunteers should be able-bodied enough to comfortably traverse the terrain of the Refuge shoreline and be prepared to get somewhat dirty. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and shoes that can get muddy.

Space is limited; please contact Carolyn Rose to reserve your spot!
