The Marine and Freshwater B.S. biology degree is offered through the
School of Biological Sciences of The
University of Texas at Austin. This degree is offered on the Austin campus and
the Department of Marine Science offers several courses that satisfy
requirements for this degree program. Below is a summary of the program.
additional details.
Under this major, students are:
-
required to enroll in at least two summer courses at the Marine Science
Institute in Port Aransas.
-
encouraged to enroll in four courses at the Marine Science Institute in Port
Aransas either by taking four courses in one summer (i.e., two consecutive
summer sessions), or as we recommend, over two summer periods in Port Aransas.
-
offered the option to register in Marine Science courses in conjunction with
directed research courses (MNS 170, 270, and 370) over consecutive summer or
fall/spring terms.
-
strongly encouraged to enroll in research courses in one of the many disciplines
offered by the faculty in the department if they are interested in graduate
school. Only three credits of research may be counted toward one special studies
course to fulfill the 21 hour upper-division course requirement as described
under section 19(c) in the Prescribed Work in Option III: Marine and Freshwater
Biology.
For entering students interested in this program, you will find application
materials for The University of Texas at Austin on the
UT Admissions web site. Continuing students already enrolled at UT-Austin
should contact Dr. Mike Raney, BS
advisor for the College of Natural Sciences.
