MSI Researchers and GK-12 Teacher on Icebreaker in Alaska

MSI researchers Susan Schonberg and Craig Aumack, along with GK-12 teacher Patty Cie, are on the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Healy are part of the Shelf Basin Interactions (SBI) project -- a multi-year, interdisciplinary program to investigate the impact of global change on physical, biological, and geochemical processes over the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas in the Western Arctic Ocean.

The project is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research. The MSI research, which is led by Professor Ken Dunton, is focused on arctic food webs and how changes in climate may influence the sources of carbon that fuel the high secondary production of invertebrate fauna on the seabed of the western arctic shelf.
