PROPOSED MISSION-ARANSAS NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE

Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) - Management Plan (MP)

The proposed Texas National Estuarine Research Reserve is in the second phase of development, which will culminate in a Final EIS/MP.  The steps of the phase include:

Step 1: Scoping Meetings in Austin, Port Aransas, and Rockport  November 16-17, 2004
Step 2: Draft Environmental Impact Statement
Draft Management Plan
October 7, 2005
Step 3: Public Hearings November 9-10, 2005
Step 4: 45-day Comment Period Ends November 23, 2005
Step 5: Final Environmental Impact Statement/Final Management Plan Target February 2006
Step 6: 30-day Cooling-off Period Target March 2006
Step 7: Record of Decision Target April 2006
Step 8: Designation Ceremony Target May 2006

The public scoping hearings were held November 16-17, 2004.  A presentation (0.7 Mb) was given by Laurie McGilvray (NOAA) on the NERRS and a presentation (0.2 Mb) was given by Paul Montagna (UTMSI) on the proposed site.  The transcripts of the meetings are available using the links below.

The Draft EIS/MP is available here and notice was published in the Federal Register October 7, 2005.  The U.S. EPA EIS No. is 20050416. 

The public hearings were held November 9-10, 2005.  A presentation (0.1 Mb) on the DPEIS was given by Matt Chasse (NOAA) and a presentation (0.6 Mb) on the DMP was given by Paul Montagna (UTMSI).  The transcripts of the meetings are available using the links below.

The public comment period ended November 23, 2005.
