Public Outreach
Marine Education Services
A major mission of the Marine Science Institute is to educate the public about the importance of the world's oceans and coasts. Through the Visitor's Center; K-12 educational programs and radio program, the institute strives to teach all people the importance of marine science and marine ecosystems.
Annually, thousands of adults converge at the Institute to learn about ocean and coastal ecosystems through Elderhostel. The Institute's Science and the Sea initiative conveys an understanding of the sea and its myriad life forms to everyone through a nationally distributed radio program, a multi-media website, magazine articles, podcasts, and RSS feeds.
The Marine Education Services is a multi-functional outreach facility promoting interest in Marine Science through educational programs for teachers, students and the general public.
