BIOMASS GIS MAPS
Biomass data from
1,093 stations were compiled into an Access database. The stochastic tools
kriging and cokriging were selected to interpolate biomass data from the suite
of geostatistical techniques available in the ArcInfo 8.1 extension, Geostatistical
Analyst. The tools allowed modeled surfaces to be created from point (station)
data and predicted error to be generated for evaluation of modeling accuracy.
The map below shows the resulting benthic biomass distribution map. Biomass
density increases as the color darkens (see legend).
