BENTHIC BIOMASS - TEMPORAL CHANGE
Benthic biomass was collected in the Bering Sea south of St. Lawrence Island in the 1970’s and 1990’s (below). The comparison plots indicate that biomass was higher in the 1990’s than during the 1970’s. Regions north of St. Lawrence Island in the Bering, the western Chukchi and nearshore Wainwright were sampled in the 1970’s and 1980’s. In most cases the 1980’s samples had higher biomass, but there were a couple of exceptions.
An analysis of benthic data collected by year illustrated that a majority of samples were collected in the 1970’s during the OCSEAP program (inset).
