BENTHIC BIOMASS
- TEMPORAL CHANGE
Benthic biomass
was collected in the Bering Sea south of St. Lawrence Island in the 1970s
and 1990s (below). The comparison plots indicate that biomass was higher
in the 1990s than during the 1970s. Regions
north of St. Lawrence Island in the Bering, the western Chukchi and nearshore
Wainwright were sampled in the 1970s and 1980s. In most cases
the 1980s samples had higher biomass, but there were a couple of exceptions.
An analysis of benthic data collected by year illustrated that a majority
of samples were collected in the 1970s during the OCSEAP program (inset).
