FAML is proud and honored to open the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Texas Laboratory for Marine Larviculture.
With generous support from CCA members across Texas, FAML researchers are able to produce new research from a state-of-the art facility.
The data produced will help increase success of hatcheries that raise fish to stock the waters along the Coastal Bend.
Members of the highest office at the University of Texas were present at the ribbon cutting ceremony, including University President Bill Powers.
CCA members, President Powers, and UTMSI faculty gave speeches.
"So much is not known on the early life stage of fishes" Dr. Joan Holt, FAML's associate director, said. "This lab will allow us to work
at a higher level for more precise research. If we can increase the knowledge of these fish, then we can better manage them. The information
arms us to understand what changes will impact the overall population."
The ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated a long tradition of partnership and support between FAML and leading conservation organizations such as CCA.
