SUBMISSION
OF GK-12 LESSON PLANS
Lesson
plans are one of the most valuable and tangible products of the
GK-12 program that, if written well, can benefit many teachers and
students for years to come. They must be of publication quality
as reflected by good grammar and sentence structure (i.e., avoid
sentences that end in verbs and prepositions, excessive use of passive
voice, run-on sentences, poor subject-verb agreement, etc.). Lesson
plans should also be well documented and contain no obvious errors
in procedures. They must follow the 5E
instructional format.
The
sequence for submission is:
1.
Fellow (first author) and teacher (second author) write the lesson
plan together. The procedure should involve an initial draft write-up
by the Fellow, followed by teacher feedback and another draft. The
lesson is not forwarded to the Program Coordinator unless the teacher
has looked at the lesson, discussed it with the Fellow, and approved
it.
2.
Fellow submits the lesson to their respective Program Coordinator
(Andrea Cantu or Cliff Strain) as an attached Word document.
3.
The Program Coordinator reviews the lesson. If a revision is required,
the Coordinator returns the lesson to the Fellow. The Fellow makes
the necessary revisions and returns the document to the Coordinator.
The Coordinator will not forward the lesson to the PI (Ken Dunton)
until the Fellow makes the revisions.
4.
The Coordinator forwards the lesson plan to the PI for review. If
major revisions are required, the PI will return the lesson to the
first author (Fellow) for another draft. Once the PI accepts the
final lesson plan, it is forwarded to the Webmaster (Ethan Thompson)
for "publication" on the GK-12 web page. The Webmaster
will not place anything on the web unless the PI approves it.
The
roles of the various individuals are identified below:
Fellow:
First Author
Teacher: Co-author
Program Coordinator: Peer Reviewer
PI: Senior Editor
Webmaster: Publisher
