Marine Chemistry Additional Notes and Links

Notes and links will be arranged by lecture number and linked from the schedule page

Lecture 1 - Hydrologic Cycle

Check out these animations of climate parameters (things pertinent to the energy and water cycles) at the University of Oregon. They include global maps of monthly averages of just about everything discussed in the September 7 lecture.

NASA's Earth Observatory has all sorts of data and images available. The December 1992 maps of temperature and precipitation came from the chart on this page.

More precipitation maps are available at the Global Precipitation Climatology Project page.

The Weather World 2010 project has a set of pages on the hydrologic cycle.

Elemental Distributions

Calcium Carbonate Solubility

Here are the correct Ksp's for calcite and aragonite, which I mentioned were wrong in the original lecture notes (they have been corrected in the notes now):

calcite: Ksp = 3.35 x 10-9 = 10-8.47

aragonite: Ksp = 5 x 10-9 = 10-8.30
