CURRENT RESEARCH

In addition to classical genomic actions, both progestins and estrogens also exert rapid nongenomic actions initiated at the cell surface in reproductive tissues, presumably by binding to membrane localized receptors. Recently, our lab has cloned and analyzed membrane progestin receptors in the spotted seatrout and humans.  A G protein coupled membrane estrogen receptor, GPR30, has also been characterized in human breast cancer cells by our team. My research is focused on further characterization of membrane progestin and estrogen receptors in human and fish models.  I am currently studying the molecular structures of these genes and proteins as well as their G-protein coupling signal transduction pathways.
